The Story of the Manta Ray as told by David Tubbs

MantaMy parents, Donald and Carolyn Tubbs were great friends with Bob and Charlyne Stasiuk.  They attended church together and socialized in many ways over the years.  Carolyn Tubbs was also a great supporter of music and theater, her dream was to build an auditorium for the community to enjoy the arts.  My mother passed in 2014 and my father died in 2018.  I was lucky to spend the last day of my father’s life with him.  As we talked, I asked him if he wanted to listen to some music.  He told me he would and I asked what kind of music would he like.  Surprisingly he told me “classical”.  I never knew him to be a fan of classical music but that day we spent listening to beautiful music together, including a number of versions of Pachelbel's Canon D.  Whenever I hear Canon D my mind goes back to that day with my father.

When we were approached to help fund this musical park we felt this would be a wonderful tribute to Bob as well as something our parents would have loved to support.  We were directed to an online site in order to pick an instrument.  With each instrument viewed a short musical piece played.   When I came to the Manta Ray, it played Pachelbel's Canon D! That is the story of the Manta Ray and how this instrument came to be funded by the Tubbs Family Foundation for the Arts.  May all who play her enjoy peace and happiness.
