Tubbs Brothers is proud to have been part of this significant community fundraiser event. A pledge of $5,000 was made to the Sanilac County Historical Society towards the project. The goal for the Sanilac County Historical Society is to save, protect and preserve local area history. Their mission statement reads:
“To promote interest in the history and cultural heritage of Sanilac County. To collect, preserve, and exhibit archival records and information, materials, objects and buildings relating to the history of Sanilac County and the State of Michigan.”
The historical Bark Shanty-Aitkin House will be moved to the Sanilac County Historic Village and Museum located 228 S. Ridge Street in Port Sanilac, Michigan. The home was originally built in 1853 near the Bark Shanty Marina. It was among the first homes build in Port Sanilac, and one of the oldest still in existence. William H. Aitkin grew up in the home; he practiced law and was a prominent citizen of Croswell, Michigan. After Williams’s death his family honored his memory with a fund to the Croswell library, and in March 1931 it was dedicated as the William H. Aitkin Memorial Library.
At Tubbs Brothers, we realize that it is our duty to support our community and to be a positive role model within it. As such we have always made community outreach a top priority. Whenever possible, we ask that you partner with us to help support and build our community into one that we can all be proud of. With strong collaboration in various events and fundraisers, everyone who lives or visits in our neighborhoods will benefit. When we work together as a team, we can accomplish great things!
